The Royal College of Art is the UK’s only entirely postgraduate institution of art and design, dedicated to teaching, research and knowledge exchange with industry. The RCA has been ranked the number 1 university for art & design internationally for the seventh consecutive year according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021.

One of four Schools at the RCA, the School of Communication is a collective community, which aims to co-create inclusive, intercultural communication and experiences. The School offers students and researchers the opportunity to develop their practices and careers as artists, communicators, curators, designers and writers.

The School's ethos embraces socially engaged, interdisciplinarity and transformational practices with our students on programmes in Animation, Digital Direction, Information Experience Design, Visual Communication and students at MRes and MPhil/PhD level. Our engagement with industry and communities are reinforced by the School's location at White City, London and our research and knowledge exchange focuses on critical, creative and collaborative communication practices.

The appointment of a new Head of Programme is a part of the College's vision to create a School of Communication of outstanding international reach and reputation focused on creating new interdisciplinary opportunities between and beyond the programmes, introducing new programmes that build on established and emerging research themes, and encouraging dialogue and active engagement with intellectual and professional debate from other disciplines and areas of human creativity.

As a member of the School Leadership Team, the Head of Programme will take a leading role in contributing to the design of cross-School and/or cross-College academic provision as the College develops its academic framework to facilitate new academic initiatives and flexible modes of learning. The postholder will be committed to developing flexible learning opportunities and responding innovatively to changing student demographics and modes of study.

Reporting to the Dean, the Head of Programme will provide hands-on academic leadership and take overall responsibility for academic quality and direction, research, teaching and learning, and management of all the resources of the programme and its staff team.

Candidates will be proven leaders with an internationally-recognised track record of research in a related field. They will be inspirational teachers, dedicated to enhancing the student experience through high calibre content and innovative teaching methods. They will also have the appetite to seek out interdisciplinary opportunities both within the RCA and externally, and to steward, cultivate and engage with established and new donor communities for fundraising purposes.
